Irene W. Leigh
This new work looks to explore the identity of deaf people and how they develop their identities in societies or groups where there are preconceived notions of disability and deafness. Leigh looks at the issue of labelling, the challenges of deaf-hearing identity, how families and schools add to this process and also, the influence of the past.
Assessing the challenge of stigmas and resilience, Leigh then goes on to look at Deaf culture and the impact of technology; in particular, cochlear implants. A Lens on Deaf Identities will appeal to student and professional researchers in deaf studies and deaf education. We recommend it.
