About Us
Action Deafness Books is a book store and publisher, specialising in resources on D/deafness and D/deaf issues.
The proceeds generated from the sales of our products are invested back into our work supporting D/deaf writing, literacy and publishing as well as helping to meet our other charitable objectives.
We have developed a business model with a difference; one that combines market efficiency with the promotion of social justice and access for D/deaf people.
Our particular focus is to promote and foster integration between D/deaf and Hearing writers, publishers, distributors and booksellers; to bring the two worlds together in a unique association of interests and one that will facilitate learning, the development of new ideas and the sharing of best practice.
It's been quite a journey so far and we’d like you to be part of our continued success.
As a bookstore we’re always looking for new non-fiction and fiction work which we can help to promote and distribute. As a publisher, we work to find new talented authors and support them to publish and promote their work.
If you are a D/deaf, hard of hearing, deafened or deafblind author with existing work in print or if you aspire to be a published author, then do get in touch – we want to hear from you!

Order Online
- Find the products you wish to order by browsing the website or using the search facility
- Add the items to your cart
- When you are ready to make your purchase you can pay online using our secure PayPal facility

Alternative Payment Methods
If you don’t want to pay by Paypal or by credit/debit card, you can choose to pay by a range of payment methods:
Bank transfer (BACS): Use the checkout as normal, selecting ‘BACS’ as your payment method. You will be given our bank details which you will need to make a transfer from your account (most banks will allow you to do this via telephone or internet banking or in branch). You will need to put your order reference as the reference for the payment so we can match the payment to your order. Once we have received cleared funds into our account, we will send your order.
Cheque: Use the checkout as normal, selecting ‘Cheque’ as your payment method. Please attaché a copy of your email confirmation or write your order reference on the back of the cheque so we know which order the payment corresponds to. Cheques should be made to Action Deafness Ltd. Once your cheque has cleared we will send your order.

Place your order by calling 0844 593 8440. Our office hours are 9am – 5pm (Mon-Thu) and 9am – 4.30pm (Fri). We can take payment by credit/debit card over the phone.
Order by Post
Send your order by post to Action Deafness Books at The Peepul Centre, Orchardson Avenue, Leicester LE4 6DP. If you handwrite your order please print clearly and include quantity, item description and cost. Don’t forget to include the postage charge. You can find out the correct postage charge by entering items to the online basket to be weighed, or by calling a member of our team on 0844 593 8440. Print your name and delivery address clearly and include a cheque payable to Action Deafness Ltd.

Order by Fax
If you wish to fax your order please send it to 0844 593 8441. If you handwrite your order, please print clearly and include quantity, item description and cost. Don’t forget to include the postage charge. You can find out the correct postage charge by entering items to the online basket to be weighed, or by calling a member of our team on 0844 593 8440. Print your name and delivery address clearly and state your method of payment. Individual customers must ensure that payment follows a faxed order. Orders will not be sent until payment is received by one of the above methods.
We are happy to invoice businesses and organisations for their purchases on standard 30 day terms. Please email, fax or post your purchase order to us remembering to include the postage charge. Order Processing and Delivery
Orders placed by 1.30pm will be dispatched on the same day. Orders placed after 1.30pm or on weekends will be dispatched the next working day.

Refunds & Exchanges
Refunds will only be given in the following cases:
- The wrong item has been dispatched
- The item is faulty or damaged in transit
- The item is unwanted and in a saleable condition (i.e. all labels, packaging in tact, no damage or signs of use). Please ensure that you have received the correct item and wish to keep the item before removing any packaging.
Refunds will only be issued when returned goods have been received and inspected. Please package any return items carefully as Action Deafness Books will not be accountable for items damaged in transit where no effort has been made to package them appropriately. Postage costs will not be refunded unless we sent an item in error.
In cases of Exchanged items, your alternative item will only be issued when returned goods have been received and inspected. Repeat postage costs will only be covered by Action Deafness Books in cases where we have issued the initial item in error. Postal charges outside UK
